About Mobilaria

The basis for Mobilaria was laid in 2001, when over 600 WIFI access points were installed throughout the campus of the University of Twente.

At the time it was the largest testing site in Europe and as such was gratefully used by several large firms such as Ericsson, Logica CMG, the Institute for Telematics, Vodafone and KPN. Students were also encouraged to think of creative uses for WIFI and subsequently develop these. During this period Wanjo Temkov, at that time still a technical business administration student, came up with the idea to make all the media on the university network available to listen to and watch on mobile phones. WIFI was present on campus and outside this area UMTS was available. During this time the first contact was made with Radio 538.

Erik de Zwart was managing director at the time and Dennis Kokkelink was the interactive manager. During the following five years the idea and the technologies were developed and the organization Mobilaria was established to support these multimedia services.
